Belongs to the Quartz group. Hawk's eye, as well as tiger eye, are so-called pseudomorphs. Pseudomorphis* of quartz to crocidolite; the latter transformed into quartz while retaining its fibrous structure. The remaining iron was oxidized and is responsible for the golden brown to reddish-brown colour in tiger's eye. If there is less oxidation occurring, we call it hawk's eye.
*Pseudomorphism is the existence of a mineral that has the appearance of another mineral. Pseudomorphism occurs when a mineral is altered in such a way that its internal structure and chemical composition is changed but its external form is preserved.
